Weddings - Long Ago in the Town of Richfield

Richfield had its share of beautiful brides. Four of the couples highlighted in this article are all associated with the Messer/Mayer Mlll which is located in the Richfield Historical Park. The Lofy/Eiche wedding represents a Richfield homestead family. Enjoy the descriptions of these lovely wedding gowns.

1870   Johann Messer Jr. and Eva HarlosMesser Wedding

Eva's dark dress is floor length with a full skirt, pinched waist and slight bustle. Her bodice has small buttons and velvet trim. The sleeves are velvet trimmed as well. She wears a beautiful broach at the neck. Her hair is parted in the middle but "crimped" in the fashion of the day.

 

 

 

 

 

1887   C.W. Mayer and Mary Anna KurtzMayer, CW Wedding

Mary Anna Kurtz is wearing a very sophisticated dark floor length dress with distinct bustle and trim of black jet beading. Her sleeves are long and fitted. Her long white veil is fastened to a flower coronet headpiece. We see a watch fob at her waist. C. W. has large lapel buttonhole boutonniere matching his bride's flowers.

 

 

 

 

 

1903   Hubert Lofy and Margaret EicheLofy, Hubert Wedding

Margaret Eiche is wearing a white floor length high necked dress with a  slight train. It is of soft material. Her bodice is of pleated lace. Her long tight fitting sleeves have a bell shaped over sleeve of lace. Her long veil is fastened with a flower coronet. Her hair is styled in a soft bouffant. She carries a "Bernhardt" bouquet of seasonal flowers and has a corsage on the shoulder of her dress.

 

 

 

 

 

1922   George Mayer and Martha Maurermayer, George Wedding

Martha Maurer's white ankle length dress is of a light fabric. It has a scoop neck. Her longer dark hair sets off her banded headpiece. She carries a "Shower" bouquet of roses and baby's breath.

 

 

 

 

 

 

1910 Frank Zillner and Louise MayerMayer, Louise and Zillmer Wedding

Louise Mayer is wearing a long white dress of lighter fabric with belted waist and 3/4 length sleeves. The high neck has lace or pleated trim. She is wearing a beautiful locket at the neck. A single flower rests in her loosely styled hair. The bride and groom's parents as well as attendants and siblings are in this more casual photo taken on the lawn at the Messer/Mayer Mill.
